Three Stags will be competing in their hamoe stadium at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Matthew Hudson-Smith who joined the Birchfield Academy when he was 9 years old and is the British record holder for 400m leads the way. Now training in USA Matthew has had an excellent season and is also hoping to be selected for the World Championships this year.
Another local boy Elliot Giles will run in the 1500m. Elliot who lived in Hamstead before leaving the City to go to University is better known as an 800m runner having representing GB & NI at the Olympics and World Championships in this event.
Our final Stag to join the team is hammer thrower Craig Murch. Craig has been British Champion but this will be his first major championships and he is delighted to be part of the team.
