Last weekend it was the turn of our track and field athletes to make the headlines. At the Midland Counties Indoor Championships a total of 20 medals were won, Twelev gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals.
Starting with the field events there were some excellent performances. Mayah Charles won the senior women's competition with a jump of 5.49m and taking the silver in the same competition was Nifemi Ogunbase. There was a further medal in the long jump as Brandon Waltham won a bronze in the senior men, his best jump of 6.27m

Our pole vaulters were very much on form winning six medals. It was gold for Tilly Webb (U15), Isabel Read (U17) Alex Sethi (U17) and Charley O'Neill (U20) and silver medals for Maisie Stevens (U15) and Tayja McManus (2.72).
Many of these athletes vaulted new personal bests including Tilly Webb, Maisie Stevens, Tayja McManus and Isabel Read so it was ann excellent weekend for the squad and their coaches Adam and Lizzie Lyons.
The final medal in the field came from U17 Daisy Burton who won gold in the U17 high jump with a clearance of 1.65m equalling her personal best.
More medals came in the sprints. Jessica Duncton has an excellent weekend winning both the senior women's 60m hurdles and the U20 60m. Miriam Allen was another hurdler to take gold this time in the U20 race. Our final medal, bronze, went to Samantha Griffiths in the senior women 60m.
All in all it was an excellent start to the season for these athletes and there is no doubt there is a lot to come during the course of 2024.
