The last big cross country race for our youngsters was the English Schools Championships in Nottingham

Ash Burgess

This year's English Schools Cross Country Championships was held at Woolaton Park in Nottingham. With the fantastic back drop of Wollaton Hall our young Stags were representing their county schools teams.

Most of our athletes were in the West Midlands Schools team and performance of the day went to Ash Burgess who was fourth in the inter boys race. With 356 in the race this was a great achievement and a top eight finish meant Ash now goes on to represent England Schools in the SAIB schools international in Liverpool this weekend.

Also in the inter boys race were Oliver Cresswell (123rd) and Paul Harrison (131st) both of whom had good runs and are bottom of the age group in schools competitions.

In the senior boys race we had one representative, Luca Bradley who was running for Staffordshire Schools. He finished in 266th out of 312 athletes.

In the junior boys Anton Bolding was running in his first English schools race and finished a very credible 177th out of 323 runners.

In the girls races we had all our runners in the inter girls race. Emily Symes continued her good form over cross country although two tough races in recent weeks made it a difficult race but she still came home in 94th. Keira Nee also running for West Midlands was 125th and Holly Saunders part of the Warwickshire schools team was 160th.

Well done all this is a tough race against the best athletes in the country.
