The British Championships and Olympic Trials saw some great performances by our athletes as they were looking to secure a place on team GB&NI for Tokyo.

A superb two days of competition at the British Championships in Manchester gave the Stags a medal haul of three golds, two silvers and four bronze.

Leading the way were Elliot Giles and Meghan Beesley. Elliot was in a hotly contested 800m race and timed it perfectly to finish in gold medal position by only 100th of a second and secured his place on the team for the Tokyo Olympics. Meghan Beesley, who has not run much this season, saved her best for the championships and she also gained her place on the Olympic team in winning the 400m hurdles. Our final national champion was Katie Stainton. Keeping the Birchfield tradition of producing multi-eventers alive, Katie was crowned heptathlon champion an excellent performance after an injury ravaged season.

Another Stag, Natasha Smith joined Katie on the podium as she took second place in the heptathlon. Our throwers were also on form as Jess Mayho was the silver medalist in the hammer. Not to be outdone, Greg Millar threw a pb in the javelin for the bronze medal and Craig Murch (hammer) Adele Nicoll (shot), and Emma Hamplett (javelin), were also bronze medalists, so our throwers were on top form.
