A proposed rule change, in addition to the one sent out three weeks ago, will be presented to members at the AGM onn 19 November 2020. Links to voting slips and the Reoprt and Accounts will be sent to eligible voting members next week

AGM - Proposed Rule Change

The proposed changes to the Rules as set out below are advised to ensure that we set the bar at the highest level to maintain the integrity of the various classes of memberships as was first envisaged by our predecessors and which still hold their value today. At present we award Life Membership as set out in Rule 5.1 below. Included in the qualification for such an award is that of meritorious services with a qualifying period of 25 years which at times causes confusion. The time period appears to serve as a matter of entitlement rather than an earned badge of merit. The proposals herein serve to maintain Life Membership to reflect the highest level of athletic achievement and promote the award for meritorious service to that category for Life vice Presidency

Current Rule

5.1. F

Life Membership shall be awarded to any member who has at least 12 months continuous membership from their date of joining and who achieves selection to compete in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and or the Senior World Championships or attains a world record in an Olympic discipline whilst a current member. In addition, the club committee shall consider for Life membership, any member for meritorious services to the club. A member selected for such an award must be fully subscribed on his / her membership and has served 25 years or more.

5.1. G

Life Vice-Presidency shall be the same as Life Membership, with the exception of athletes receiving selection for the Olympic Games etc, and the continuous service should be for 40 years with the qualifying date being 1st January 1965. Life Vice-presidents may only attend club committee meetings when invited to do so by the club committee. They have no voting rights unless they hold another office which permits them to do so.

Proposed Rule:

5.1. F

Life Membership shall be awarded to any member who has at least 12 months continuous membership from their date of joining and who achieves selection to compete in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Deaflympics and or the Senior World Championships or attains a world record in an Olympic discipline whilst a current member. Any member selected for this award must have competed in a recognised club competition

5.1. G

Life Vice-Presidency shall be awarded to any member for meritorious services to the club. A member selected for such an award must be fully subscribed on his / her membership and has served for 30 years continuously with the qualifying date being 1st January 1965. However, serving 30 years would not automatically guarantee the award. Life Vice-Presidents may only attend club committee meetings when invited to do so by the club committee. They have no voting rights unless they hold another office which permits them to do so.
