It was the turn of our seniors to compete in the England Championships at the weekend and they did not disappoint.

Efe Okoro, Craig Murch and Jessica Mayho were England Champions, picking up well deserved gold medals. Efe took the 400m title and Craig Murch and Jessica Mayho continued their strong season with good performances in the hammer to win their event.

The Stags also brought home six silver medals. Amy Hillyard ran a strong 400m for second place in a season's best time. Tom Dodd, back from his first year at college in the USA, won his first senior medal in a close 800m race. Dan Cartwright, back to throwing after a difficult injury last year, was second in the shot put and Emma Hamplett also won a silver medal in the throws, this time in the javelin. Multi-eventer Jack Phipps had a good weekend with his best performance in the pole vault to put him in silver medal position. Finally Katrina Hart T37 was second in the ambulant 100m.

Adding to the medal tally were Jake Porter, who has overcome some major setbacks this season, with a bronze in the 110m hurdles, Heather Paton also took bronze in the 100m hurdles. Chris Shorthouse joined Craig Murch on the podium with a third place in the hammer. Finally, James Hedger, who was competing in his first competition of the season took a bronze in the discus.

All in all it was an excellent weekend for Birchfield's senior athletes.
