After some stunnning runs in the heat and semi-final Matthew Hudson-Smith ran a great race to take the bronze medal at the World Championships in Eugene.

This is the first time Matt has won a global medal and this is richly deserved after his battle with injuries and his mental health. He held on in the closing stages and was determined this was his day and it proved to be so.

Birchfield was delighted to witness his success as he has been a Birchfield Harrier since he was 10 years of age. In a recent podcast to promote the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games he was very complimentary about the Club saying "the Club has such a high pedigree and in learning the fundamentals of the sport it was an amazing environment to be in."

He is now hoping his performance will inspire kids to get into athletics and follow in his footsteps.

Everyone at the Club is very proud of his achievements and we now look forward to seeing him race on his home track in the Commonwealth Games.
