Denise Lewis and Aston Moore recognised in the New Year Honours List

Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis OBE has been awarded a damehood for services to sport in the 2023 New Year Honours List. She was a member of Birchfield from a young age and her greatest achievement in athletics was he gold medal in the heptathlon at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. She is now an integral part of the BBC team covering athletics and has become a household name after appearing an such programmes as Strictly Come Dancing. Most recently she became President of England Commonwealth Games and was part of the opening ceremony at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

Aston Moore, the former two-time Commonwealth triple jump bronze medallist and long-time British athletics coach, has been awarded an MBE for services to his sport. Aston, a member of Birchfield for many years. has become a successful since hanging up his spikes. He coached fellow Stag Ashia Hansen to her many titles and he currently coaches Naomi Metzger, Ben Williams, Olivia Breen and Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
