Georgie Hartigan was named as female athlete of the year for 2020 by the British Milers Club. She was rewarded for her excellent, albeit short, season which saw her knock three seconds off her personal best bringing her 800m time down to 2.02.99. With such little competiton in 2020 this was a great achievement and it brings her closer the magical sub 2 minute mark.

The daughter of John and Bev Hartigan who were both athletes running is in her genes. Coached by Her Mum, Bev, Georgie is looking forward to bringing her time down even further and qualifying for major championships in the future.

The second member who was recognised for his achievements was Geoff James. A life member of Birchfield, Geoff recieved an award for his lifetime services to BMC as a coach and mentor. He coached Olympian and Commonwealth gold medallist, Mary Stewart, and much later he also coached son Adam Cotton, who won the European Junior 1500m title. He is still coaching at Birchfield and can be seen trackside with his latest group when training is permitted.
